Many women are traumatised :For example, there was a woman who was raped by a gang of men. Then she was left unconscious for more than a week. After that she was taken to hospital by a good Samaritan. She was given treatment, but she will never recover completely because she ended up by having HIV/AIDS. In addition, counseling is done on a daily basis. They are also taught how to start income generating micro-project to support themselves. Some lost limbs due to mayhem, an arm or leg many women were deformed and incapacitated. Some lost their property and have no where to start a living
Tumwite(an assumed name), a rape victim of genocide whose property was destroyed lives in a hurt with goats and her child. She was hungry, miserable and helpless. The hut was leaking and there was not enough room for her to sleep well, so she turned to us. MBWIRANDUMVA has built a 3 roomed house for Tumwine F. and now she is comfortable with her child. Others were raped and have unwanted children
Men sexually mutilated women and sexually hurt them with sticks and other sharp objects. Annie(an assumed name) has suffered very much at the hands of soldiers and fellow classmates, who were supposedly there to protect both her and some other students. Naked, she was taken from place to place, had her body brutally pierced with a needle, and a bottle was even forced in between her legs before she savagely raped by several soldiers ! As a result of this rape, she got pregnant and gave birth to a boy. Despite all these scenes of violence that Annie either went through or witnessed now she courageously looks after her baby whom she loves very much. When asked about her last bitter experiences and how she feels, she said: "I am grateful to God who knows why He has spared my life, and allowed me to have this baby".
Now Annie is back to school, due to the support of MBWIRANDUMVA. |
