About Us

One day, a young girl came with her child asking for help at Barakabaho Foundation offices where Beatrice Mukansinga was working. When that woman was told that Barakabaho Foundation only helped orphans, she immediately wanted to abandon her child right there. The woman said:

" I am in a miserable situation and destitute. My baby will be better off as an orphan in your hands."

The above incident made us realise that children will be readily abandoned if something was not done to help mothers in Rwanda. So,
Beatrice Mukansinga organised a group of women and they began to meet regularly to talk, pray, cry and sing as part of their healing process. This group was named" MBWIRANDUMVA" which means Speak, I am listening".

As things evolved, attention was paid to women, girls and others who were victims of violence. MBWIRANDUMVA Initiative came into existance to address gender issues of female victims of genocide.
